KING COUNTY, WA - Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, King County residents have access to accurate and up-to-date HIV and other sexually transmitted disease (STD) information by calling Public Health's HIV/STD Hotline (206-205-STDS). Referrals and appointments for clinical services -- for example, examination, testing, risk reduction counseling, and treatment -- are also available.
Trained Hotline staff answer questions, conduct risk assessments, and make referrals in a friendly and easy-to-understand way. Brochures and other printed materials are also available (most are free of charge) and may be picked up by the requester or mailed to their home.
Confidential HIV and STD clinical services are provided by the Public Health Department at a variety of sites throughout King County. Some sites have walk-in or "same day" appointment slots available.
Persons exposed to an STD or with suspicious symptoms should call the HIV/STD Hotline or their doctor immediately.
The HIV/STD Hotline was initiated in 1983 -- first as the HIV Prevention Hotline and later as the HIV/STD Hotline. The Seattle-King County Department of Public Health was one of the first in the United States to provide this kind of service.
