Summary of 2007 West Nile virus activity |
Seattle & King County:
In 2007, no cases of West Nile virus were reported in Seattle or King County. Laboratory testing for the virus in 2007 was conducted as follows:
- 2,795 dead birds reported; 125 tested – all were negative
- 411 mosquito trapping events; 209 batches of vector mosquitoes tested – all were negative
- 5 horses with illness suggestive of West Nile virus – all were negative
Washington State:
- 3 birds infected with West Nile virus were reported in King County outside of Seattle. These birds died and were tested in the month of October. They were found in the Somerset neighborhood of Bellevue (1) and in Kent (2).
- One King County horse was reported with West Nile virus. The horse was from the Ravensdale/Maple Valley area and died of West Nile virus neurologic disease on October 8th.

Summary of 2006 West Nile virus activity |
Seattle:
Three crows infected with West Nile virus were identified in Seattle. These birds died in the month of October and were found in Magnolia (1), Broadview/Blueridge (1) and Laurelhurst (1).
King County (outside Seattle):
Two crows, one hawk, and one horse infected with West Nile virus were identified in King County. These animals died in the month of October and were found in Bellevue (1 hawk), Kent (2 crows), and Ravensdale/Maple Valley (1 horse).
Washington State:
- Thirteen birds infected with West Nile virus were identified in Washington State, including the 6 birds from King County (see details above). The other 7 birds were from Yakima County (3), Snohomish County (2), Island County (1), and Cowlitz County (1).
- Five ill horses in Yakima County were confirmed with West Nile virus infection.
- Human cases of West Nile fever occurred in Pierce County (2 cases) and Clark County (1 case).
