Where to get tested for STDs in King County

Your primary care provider or health maintenance organization (HMO). Most private providers and HMOs provide testing and care. Cost varies.

Find a bus to the STD Clinic using Google Maps
On the left side of the map screen, click on the Directions link. Enter your starting point and be sure the drop down menu is selected for "By public transit" then press the Get Directions button. The map will provide instructions on which buses to take from your point of origin.

Walk-in clinic for STD evaluation/treatment and HIV testing

Registration opens at 7:45 am.

If you need to be seen later than 4 p.m. please talk to our staff to make sure we are still accepting patients for the day.

Public Health - Seattle & King County (Public Health) provides testing for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and HIV in accordance with local and national guidelines.

The Public Health STD Clinic at Harborview provides medical services for payment based on a sliding scale. Low income persons are charged a minimum fee of $15, but no person will be denied services because of inability to pay. Fees will be discussed with the provider seen.

The STD Clinic routinely tests persons aged 24 and under for:

  • gonorrhea
  • chlamydia
  • syphilis
  • HIV

Older persons are tested based on their risks and STD symptoms.

All persons seen at the STD Clinic are also offered a blood test for herpes simplex virus-2 (HSV-2), the most common cause of genital herpes. All persons wishing HSV-2 testing will be charged $30 for the test; the clinic cannot provide the blood test at no cost. Persons with herpes-like sores can have the sores tested at no cost. Only the STD Clinic at Harborview provides blood tests for HSV-2.

Public Health Family Planning Clinics
The Public Health Family Planning clinics offer STD testing. STD testing fees are based on client’s income, and may be reduced to zero. People who need STD testing will be served even if they cannot pay. The clinics also accept medical coupons.

The STD testing we offer:

  • Routine chlamydia and gonorrhea testing for women aged 24 and younger.
  • Chlamydia and gonorrhea testing for men and women aged 25 and older will be done based on a person’s risk and symptoms.
  • Herpes, syphilis and HIV testing will be done based on a person’s risk and symptoms. Public Health Centers do not provide blood tests for herpes testing.
