Monogamy facts
Monogamy means only having sex with one uninfected partner who only has sex with you.
Here's how:
- Find a partner.
- Both partners use condoms consistently and correctly for three months OR both partners abstain from sex with anyone for three months.
- Both of you get tested (and treated if necessary) for HIV and other STDs.
- If you are both not infected with HIV or other STDs and monogamous (and you don't use needles with drugs), condom-free sex is now safe.
- If your relationship doesn't stay permanent, return to STEP One.
Don't assume your partner is monogamous. Discuss it and keep discussing it.
