Vision and Mission Statement of the HIV/AIDS Program

Vision Statement:

As members of the Public Health - Seattle & King County HIV/AIDS Program, we envision every person effectively preventing and/or effectively managing HIV infection.

Mission Statement

We collaborate with local communities to:

  • Develop and provide effective HIV prevention programs,
  • Deliver compassionate, comprehensive, and quality care services to those affected by HIV, and
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of what we do.

Operating Principles

The operating principles for the HIV/AIDS Program are described below. We are collectively committed to finding ways for these principles to guide workplace behaviors, norms, and decisions. Although these principles represent ideals, we believe that they are important to state because they establish standards for conduct and encourage trust in the workplace.

Work Environment

We work best in a courteous and supportive environment. We respect personal work space. We keep the work environment clean and the noise level appropriate for concentration to tasks. We recognize the value of humor as a means of coping with the stresses of the work place.

Respect

We respect who we are, what we do, and those whom we serve. We honor our commitments to timeliness, assignments, and each other.

Appreciation

We show appreciation for each other on jobs well done, giving recognition both privately and publicly.

Diversity

We acknowledge the cultural, racial, sexual and other diversity of our staff and clientele. We embody different perspectives, approaches, and insights which enhance the work we do.

Communication

In the spirit of collaboration and cooperation, we value the timely, open, and honest exchange of pertinent information, to and from all levels in the workplace.

Flexibility

We value the ability to respond to changing conditions and fluctuating job priorities by finding innovative approaches to work, and by pitching in to assist others.

Clarity

We value and promote clarity regarding our individual and organizational roles and practices, and our agreed upon process for decision-making.

Responsibility

We agree to hold ourselves and each other accountable by:

  • taking the initiative to identify problems and solutions;
  • risking conflict; and
  • accepting responsibility for our work, behaviors, feelings and beliefs.

Conflict Resolution

We value the ability to resolve conflict directly at the level where it occurs. If necessary, we will seek assistance in order to reach a speedy resolution.

Excellence

We value creative, efficient and analytical work. We strive to base our activities and services on relevant research and to hold ourselves and each other to the highest professional standards.
