King County Board of Health

Be it Resolved: Enrollment success takes many hands

By April 1, 2014, more than 165,000 King County residents signed up for health insurance through Washington Healthplanfinder – a huge success for the first six months of enrollment. A majority of them will be getting free insurance through expanded Medicaid, and most of those who paid for a plan were able to get substantial subsidies. More than a third of those enrollees were helped by an "In-Person Assister" – a testament to how important that network (including those within Public Health) proved to be.

A formal Resolution, approved by the county Board of Health on May 15, recognizes the roles played by so many – from leaders who embraced health reform as an opportunity to strengthen our community (starting at the top with Executive Constantine), to all the grassroots partners who made personal contacts with people help them learn about the new law.

The 11-member board is comprised of three health professionals and eight elected officials who serve terms ranging from one to three years.

The Board of Health meets on the third Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the Metropolitan King County Council Chambers, unless otherwise specified.
