Information & Assistance ServicesInformation, referral, and assistance services are provided either in person, on the phone, or on-line to individuals to assist them to understand and navigate the developmental disability service system. Some programs also mail out fliers and newsletters while other programs organize support groups. Family Support 360º Program Managed by The Arc of King County, the Family Support 360º Program provides family-focused services and support to improve the quality of life for families caring for individuals with developmental disabilities (e.g. autism, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, epilepsy). Navigators or local leaders representative of the communities to which families belong work with families to identify their unique needs, develop a Family Centered Plan, and ensure families receive the services and supports they require. All families are welcome, but priority will be given to African American, Latino/Hispanic, and Vietnamese families. Parent-to-Parent Parent-to-Parent provides information, resources, training, advocacy skill development, and emotional support to families of children with developmental disabilities. Parent volunteers receive training, are encouraged to participate in their local community, and are matched with other parents. Through these efforts parents have a better understanding of their child's disability and the emotional impact to the family. There are regularly scheduled meetings, internet support groups and family get-together. The program ensures culturally relevant service acquisition and support for families from communities of color who face unique challenges when their child has a disability. King County Parent Training - Parent Education and Information The King County Parent Training Program provides group trainings for family members of individuals with developmental disabilities. Topics covered are based on family need. In addition, we plan to advertise and sponsor larger trainings using local presenters.
