Self-Advocacy Leadership Education Advocacy PartnershipThe Leadership Education Advocacy project assists adults with developmental disabilities in becoming effective leaders and influencing the developmental disabilities system. Participants are recruited from all geographic areas of King County. At least 60 percent of the participants live independently in the community and/or with their families or other relatives. Individual support and skill development needs are identified for each participant. Identified support may include, but is not limited to, assistance with transportation, stipends, internships and other accommodations. Skill development includes teaching participants how to communicate their needs assertively, understanding existing laws and benefits, learning and practicing decision making and problem solving skills, understanding the responsibilities of citizenship, and other areas of interest as identified by the participant.
