Eligibility Requirements for DDD Services

Children Under Age Three - Early Intervention (EI) Supports

To be eligible for Early Intervention (EI) supports, a child from birth until their third birthday must have a 25% delay or show a 1.5 standard deviation below his or her age in one or more of the following developmental areas:

• Cognitive Development
• Physical development, including vision, hearing, and fine and gross motor skills
• Communication development
• Social or emotional development
• Adaptive development

Extraordinary Support Needs: For extraordinary support needs there may be other State DDD services available to families with children under age 3. Adults and Children Age Three and Older

King County DDD, in cooperation with the State DDD, assists people with developmental disabilities. State DDD determines eligibility and provides case management, family support, and residential services for those who are eligible.

Eligibility Definition:
To be eligible for services, a person must have one of the following disabilities:

• Mental Retardation
• Cerebral Palsy
• Epilepsy
• Autism
• Another neurological or other condition closely related to mental retardation or that requires treatment similar to that required for individuals with mental retardation.

Additionally, the person's disability must

• Begin before the person reaches age 18 and,
• Is expected to continue indefinitely, and
• Results in the person having great difficulty with communicating, socializing or functioning in typical day-to-day activities.
