For Friends And Neighbors

Can you tell me if someone I know is getting services? Can I let someone at your agency know that I think this person needs more help?

HIPAA privacy laws prevent agencies from identifying anyone receiving their services, unless the person signs a release of information form that allows the agency to discuss the client’s information. While agencies cannot confirm whether the client is receiving services or offer any client information to you, they are allowed to hear the information that you offer to them. Agencies welcome calls from friends, neighbors, and the community because it often helps them address a situation before it turns into a crisis.

I have a neighbor/tenant/condominium owner who regularly disturbs other tenants by: shouting, banging on the walls, refusing to keep his/her apartment or community area clean, or has verbally threatened harm to me or others. What can I do?

Call the police and describe your situation. The police will then determine whether they need to intervene. Also, try contacting your apartment manager/condominium association to get help in addressing your concerns.
