Preserving Regional Services that Nurture and Enrich Citizens' Lives: King County is the regional and local service provider in our unincorporated areas, which includes the area of North Highline where White Center is located. When a community becomes part of a city, the County continues to provide regional services, but local services including roads and parks are provided by the city.
Investing in People--Bettering Lives: Each year, King County invests over $8 million in regional community and human services and nearly $4.5 million in regional public health services for the North Highline communities. These services range from job training to immunization shots. King County will maintain its commitment and investment in these critical human services, even when the North Highline communities become part of cities. More information: King County Jobs Initiative
Promoting Sustainable Governance--Ensuring a Bright Future: King County is committed to helping White Center establish a strong foundation for the future by investing today in the White Center Community Enhancement Initiative, but also, by supporting the community's transition to a city through annexation or incorporation. Cities have been designated by the State of Washington as the appropriate provider of local urban services, in part because they have more revenue options for funding local services than do counties. King County has also dedicated $10 million to encourage cities to annex, a portion of which will be set aside for the city or cities that will serve the North Highline communities.
