2008 Ari Grashin Memorial Award Presented to Terrance Jones

Grashin Award Winner Terrance Jones and the Grashin FamilyIn 2005, the Paul Robeson Scholar-Athlete Award program announced the creation of the Ari Grashin Memorial Award in honor of a scholar-athlete who led by example, never gave up and continued to reach for his goals. A former three-time award recipient who passed away in 2002, Ari was an inspirational young man who while battling cancer continued his commitment to excellence.

This year, the Paul Robeson Scholar-Athlete Award program is pleased to present the Ari Grashin Memorial Award to Terrance Jones, a fifth grader at the New School at South Shore Elementary School. Terrance, 11, enjoys reading, rolling skating, horseback riding, art and video games. He runs track and is also passionate about basketball.

An inspiration to his family and friends, Terrance is the youngest of seven children and is a very loving and caring individual. When challenges come his way, Terrance faces them head on and is never willing to quit. Looking ahead to the future, when Terrance grows up he wants to major in a field that allows him to help people. He looks forward to discovering the many career possibilities that await him. Terrance is a resilient individual who exhibits character, determination, and a tenacious drive to succeed.

The Paul Robeson Scholar-Athlete Award was a motivator to Ari and continues to be a motivator for Terrance. Terrance knows the importance of education and balancing success on the playing field and in the classroom. The Paul Robeson Scholar-Athlete Program is pleased to honor Terrance and his achievements with the Ari Grashin Memorial Award. Congratulations!
