Scholar athletes honored at 22nd annual Paul Robeson Awards

Paul Robeson The academic achievements of more than 900 King County student athletes were recognized at the 22nd annual Paul Robeson Scholar Athlete Awards ceremony May 14 at Seattle's Qwest Field Events Center.

The Paul Robeson Scholar-Athlete Award Program is committed to motivating our youth to work hard and find a healthy and enriching balance between books and the playing field. Among the award recipients the next Paul Robeson is sure to emerge.

"While I will not be able to attend this year’s ceremony, I extend my congratulations to our distinguished scholars,” said former King County Executive Ron Sims. “This year we honor more than 900 youth from throughout King County who have found a healthy balance between academic studies and athletic and dance activities. Being exceptional athletes is a great accomplishment, but if our children are also academically driven to succeed their potential is infinite. With strong minds they can have a profound impact in this world, in this country and in their communities.” (Listen to the audio file of Sims' comments, or read the text version.)
