Anticipated Outcomes: System will integrate case information within the adult criminal justice system and establish links with other systems supplying crucial information, such as the State Judicial Information System (JIS). Courts, prosecution, defense, law enforcement in the field, social service agencies, and others will have access to information on criminal suspects and defendants from all relevant systems, enabling them to make informed decisions quickly. The exact number of jobs created has not been computed, but would include hiring a new business analyst, computer application developers and a hardware specialist.

Project Description: LSJI: Document Exchange - This project will address the lack of digital document management that exists between law enforcement and the courts in the KC criminal justice work flow. The Integrated Document Exchange Project will develop a capacity for the county's criminal justice operations to receive both digital documents and/or XML data feeds, digest those feeds, store the data into systems of record and produce digital documents as applicable.

Project Description: Replacement of KC Sheriff's Records Management (IRIS) and Evidence Management (TESS) Systems - These systems, essential to the investigation and prosecution of criminal cases, were developed over 10 years ago and are in critical need of replacement to handle the heavy, multi-user wireless environment in which the Sheriff's Office now operates.

Collaboration with Regional Partners

Grant: Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) - Public Computer Centers category
Project Description: Community Learning Space in Lakewood Park Project.
TAF is seeking funding to support the construction of and programming at its Community Learning Space, which will be located in King County’s Lakewood Park in White Center. Specifically, the grant application requests funding for the building’s second floor, which will house four wireless learning labs and an academic support center. Launched in 2005, the Community Learning Space is a $14 million public-private partnership involving TAF and King County, with the support of private individuals and foundations, community groups, and local businesses.

Additional Partners: Dept of Natural Resources and Parks/Parks and Solid Waste Divisions in collaboration with OIRM; King County Executive; King County Housing Authority; Highline School District; White Center Community Development Association.
King County’s Role: As the landowner, King County Parks will provide project oversight and coordinate other details (permitting, liaising with the community, Parks maintenance staff, etc). The Solid Waste Division has provided technical support and guidance regarding the project’s green building aspects and use of salvaged materials. OIRM has expressed support for the project and can provide technical assistance in the future.
