On eve of Super Bowl, King County Executive urges settlement in NFL labor dispute

Summary

On eve of Super Bowl, King County Executive urges settlement in NFL labor dispute.

Story

King County Executive Dow Constantine today urged National Football League owners and players to reach a labor agreement and avoid a prolonged work stoppage that could threaten the next NFL season:

“Everyone in our region—whether or not they are a football fan—has a stake in seeing NFL owners and players avoid a labor stoppage. Seahawks games bring tens of thousands of visitors to our region, where they stay in hotels, eat in restaurants, ride in taxis, and shop in stores. “If games are not played, stadium employees and workers whose jobs depend on game-day visitors will lose wages. Many local businesses that depend on a packed Qwest Field for the Seahawks’ eight regular-season home games will be adversely affected, along with those in Renton near the team’s practice facility.

“As our region positions itself to recover from this economy, we want to see the players and owners work together to take full advantage of the ‘forward progress’. Everyone will benefit from a swift and decisive resolution to this dispute.”
