Elected officials present and entertainment

mlk_offiicalsKing County Executive Dow Constantine, Council Chair Larry Gossett and former Councilmember Bruce Laing (now Chair, King County Board of Ethics) gave remarks during the event. Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg, King County Councilmembers Jane Hague, Larry Phillips, Julia Patterson, and Joe McDermott; Superior Court Presiding Judge Richard McDermott and Superior Court Judges Bruce Hilyer, Laura Middaugh, and Jeffrey Ramsdell, and District Court Judge Presiding Judge Barbara Linde attended the celebration.

The Silver Anniversary performance featured Abráce. "Abráce sweeps you away on an engaging and personable jaunt with harmonies and rhythms from around the globe. Ten years ago the group's founders, Samia Panni and Joyce Yarrow, learned firsthand how music builds understanding between people of different world views. Sharing their vision of promoting inter-cultural understanding through music, singers Rebeqa Rivers, Angie Bolton, and Makayla Romero joined--as well as percussionists Denny Stern and Jeff Busch--and Abrace's sound evolved into its current full and lively presence."

The MLK King County Employee Singers reunited for this silver anniversary Celebration. They practiced on their own time and were delighted to sing at the Celebration. The Anniversary Singers include both current and former employees: Colleen Hinkle, Department of Natural Resources and Parks; John Macdonald, Department of Executive Services; Kimberly Tyler, Sheriff's Office; Toya Williams, Department of Development and Environmental Services; and Linda Woodward, Sheriff's Office. The group was directed by Michael Hepburn, Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
