Tools to Achieve your Cool County Goals

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction

  1. The King County GreenTools Toolkit is intended to guide municipalities in creating successful green building programs.
  2. Healthscape - King County and the Healthscape tools are geared toward non-motorized transportation planning, development impact assessment, and enhancing community walkability.
  3. The Puget Sound Regional Green Fleet Initiative was launched at the King County Clean Vehicles Now! conference in September 2007. The goal of this initiative is to develop a uniform "green fleet standard" based on three elements:
    • Specific targets, goals, and strategies regarding the purchase of clean vehicle technologies and the reduction of fossil fuels;
    • Policies that promote best practices in fleet design and operation; and
    • Shared information on the total type and quantity of fuel consumed and vehicle miles traveled on an annual basis.

    Building Climate Change Resilience

    Preparing for Climate Change: A Guidebook for Local, Regional and State Governments  was written by the Climate Impacts Group at the University of Washington and King County, in association with ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability.  It serves as the basis for ICLEI's Climate Resilient Communities Program, funded by NOAA.
