The Sierra Club is America's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, with more than 1.3 million members and supporters. Inspired by nature, we work together to protect our communities and the planet. The Sierra Club's Cool Cities campaign is the group's major grassroots effort on the Club's top conservation priority: Solving Global Warming with Smart Energy Solutions. The Cool Cities campaign supports and encourages local communities that are making a commitment to reduce global warming pollution, energy waste and costs. All across the nation, Sierra Club activists are partnering with community groups and working with local officials to implement clean energy solutions, including energy efficiency, cleaner vehicles, renewable power, smart growth land use planning and public transportation. In summer 2007, Alameda County launched an effort to make California a 100% Cool Counties state. Several pioneering boards have already positioned their counties for the 21st century economy by officially passing the Cool Counties Climate Stabilization Declaration. Each county who joins contributes an added diversity of knowledge and expertise to the group. Hats off to these early signatories!
