RLSJC_LogoThe King County Regional Law Safety and Justice Committee (RLSJC) is a law and justice council established under RCW 72.09.300. The committee seeks to improve coordination and cooperation among criminal justice agencies. RLSJC meets monthly to share information, identify problems and solutions and monitor the progress of innovative programs.

The membership includes representatives from suburban cities, the city of Seattle, King County, and the Department of Corrections. Meetings normally include judges, prosecutors, police chiefs, corrections officials, public defenders, legislators, mayors, city councilmembers and line staff. The chairmanship of the committee rotates annually between the suburban cities, the city of Seattle, and King County. The meeting is staffed by a budget analyst from the Criminal Justice section of the Office of Management and Budget.

During the past three years, the committee has looked at a wide range of issues including regional jail planning efforts, challenges related to criminal offenders with mental illness and/or chemical dependency issues, and the impact of state and local budget deficits on the criminal justice system. The committee meets on the last Thursday of every month from 7:30 to 9:00 AM. Generally, the meetings are held in the Bertha K Landes Room in Seattle City Hall.

RLSJC has a steering committee that meets on the Wednesday following the main meeting from noon to 1 PM in a meeting place chosen by the current chair. The Steering Committee sets the agenda for the next meeting. It is open to all members of RLSJC.
