ICERD is a United Nations Treaty. It “commits its members to the elimination of racial discrimination and the promotion of understanding among all races.” (Wikipedia)

The UN issued its 14 page response in 2008 citing concerns and recommendations:

  • Racial profiling (paragraph 14)
  • Residential segregation (paragraph 16)
  • Disproportionate incarceration (paragraph 20)
  • Differential access to health care (paragraph 32)1
  • Achievement gap in education (paragraph 34)

March 21 is the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Proclaiming the Day in 1966, the United Nations General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination. Building on that, in 1981 King County adopted a series of ordinances prohibiting discrimination in housing, employment, public accommodations and contracting.
