Driving Directions

From I-5, take James Street exit. The ramp goes west on James Street.

Turn left on Fifth Avenue and go south two blocks to Terrace Street.

Yesler Building is on Terrace Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenue.

The building entrances are on Terrace Street.

Yesler Building Access

The main entrance to the Yesler Building is on Terrace Street on the north side of the building, between Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue. (Do not attempt to enter on the Yesler Way side, which requires an employee key card).

The accessible entrance, which has an automated door, is on Terrace Street just to the west of the main entrance. The Yesler Building is on a very steep hill, so those who have mobility disabilities should approach it from Fifth Avenue if possible.

Parking for People with Disabilities

Standard Vehicle Parking

There are two entrances to the King County garage. One is at Sixth Avenue, just south of Jefferson, on the east side of the garage. A second entrance is via an alley on Jefferson Street, mid-block between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue. After turning south into the alley, proceed to the end of the driveway to enter at the gate. Clearance for both entrances is 6'8" (80").

Standard vehicle accessible parking spaces are located on several floors next to the elevators. See below for information about van accessible parking.

P2 One space
P3 One space
P5 Three spaces
P6 - 7 Two spaces on each floor
P8 Four spaces

Van Accessible Parking

For disability parking for a van with lift, use the Jefferson Street alley entrance. After turning south into the alley, there are three van accessible spaces on the left. (There is no gate. Standard vehicle entry is farther down at the end of the driveway.) Vertical clearance for these spaces is 8'2" (98").

Pedestrian Concourse to Exit Garage

To exit the garage, use the elevator to get to P1 (level 1), where there is a pedestrian concourse from the garage to street level at Fifth Avenue and Jefferson.

Vehicle Exiting From Garage

If you have a windshield transmitter issued with a monthly parking pass, you may exit at either the 6th Avenue (P8) or Jefferson alley exits (P3) during daytime hours. All other drivers must exit the Jefferson alley garage exit on P3.

Visiting the Administration Building or the Courthouse?

Exit the garage using the pedestrian concourse, head north across Jefferson, then either cross Fifth Avenue there (no traffic light) or proceed farther north and use the crosswalk at James Street (with traffic light).

The 5th Avenue entrance has a power door at the north end of the entrance. When you enter the Administration Building from 5th Avenue, you will use the stairs or wheelchair lift to get to the 4th floor elevator lobby and several King County offices.

Tunnel to the Courthouse - To get to the courthouse, take the elevator down from Administration Building 4th Floor to T level (tunnel). From the tunnel level, you may walk west under 4th Avenue from the Administration Building to the Courthouse.

Wheelchair Lift - If you do not have a key to operate the lift, pick up the phone next to the lift and you will automatically be connected to King County staff, who will come and assist you with the lift. They will also give you a key to keep, so that you may independently leave, and use lifts at other locations.

These wheelchair lift keys are also available by going to

  • Info desk on first floor, Courthouse (296-0135) - keys available upon request
  • Administration Building, Room 201, DCFM (296-0648 or 296-0641), open 8:00-4:30 - keys available upon request
  • Administration Building, Room 403, Licensing, Animal/Business/Marriage License (front desk), open 8:30-4:30 - only has one key - staff will assist with lift and will keep key
  • Administration Building, Room 450, Human Resources, Employment Center (front desk), open 8:30-4:30 - keys available upon request
Visiting the Yesler Building?
Exit the garage using the pedestrian concourse, then head south on Fifth Avenue one block to Terrace Street. Use the crosswalk across Fifth Avenue, then continue down the sidewalk on Terrace to the Yesler Building accessible entrance (just past the employee-only entrance).
