Treatment plant tours

Wastewater treatment plant tours provide information about our regional water systems, treatment processes and how residents and businesses can help protect and support the regional sewer system and our local environment.

Brightwater tours and programs:
-- School programs with treatment plant tours (grades 4-8) are available Tuesday-Thursday. Make a reservation online or contact Kristin Covey at 206-263-9412 for more for more information. Please note: all Brightwater tours and programs 4-8 grade are full for current school year.

-- Treatment plant tours are available at 10 a.m. and 12 noon on the following Saturdays: April 21st, May 19th, June 9th, July 7th and August 4th.
Please note: reservations are REQUIRED for all Saturday Open house tours participants.

-- Community and professional tours (groups larger than 10) are available by appointment. Registration required

South Plant tours

For groups grades 4-12, colleges, community groups and professionals are available Monday-Friday April through July.
--Community tour Saturday April 14th, 10 a.m. Registration required.

West Point tours
--College and professional tours are available at West Point Tuesday-Friday April through July.

Registration for spring tours begins March 12th. Register online.

General information

  • Tours can accommodate 20 visitors per available King County tour guide - minimum of 10 visitors required for a private community or resident tour.
  • All youth 18 years of age and younger must have accompanying chaperones
    • Grades 4-8: 1 chaperone for every 8 youths
    • High School: 1 chaperone for every 10 youths
  • Determine which treatment plant you would like to visit
  • Tours take approximately two hours and include a half hour presentation followed by a walking tour. Tours require a minimum of one hour.
  • Tours take place outside, in an industrial setting. All visitors must dress appropriately and wear closed toed shoes.
  • Tour groups must start and end the tour together - it is not possible to leave early
  • Two weeks advance scheduling required
  • Advance notice is required for accessible tours and accommodations
  • Tour days and times fluctuate based on King County staff availability
  • There is no cost for tours
