In 2008, King County reported that the Barton CSO facility has four overflows per year on average that discharge a total of four million gallons into Puget Sound off Fauntleroy. A planned upgrade of the Barton Pump Station will increase capacity to manage a portion of the combined stormwater and wastewater. Alternative means being considered must be capable of managing a volume of 100,000 to 200,000 gallons of peak flows, depending on location, to meet regulatory requirements.
