Lake Hills Interceptor sewer repair

Completed Spring 2009

March 6, 2009 Update. The King County Wastewater Treatment Division has completed the cured-in-place pipe lining repair of the Lakehills Interceptor sewer main. The county’s contractors have recently begun to dismantle the sewage bypass system. All bypass pumps and pipes should be removed from the work site by the second week of March. The contractors will be finishing replacement of manholes and then begin the street and sidewalk restoration work on Bellevue-Redmond Road and 140th Ave NE. This work is expected to last 2-3 weeks. The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is preparing to repair a severely corroded sewer pipeline segment along Bellevue-Redmond Road between 143rd Avenue Northeast and down through Northeast 16th Place as part of the Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Corrosion Control Program.

Project duration

*Please note: this schedule is the contractor's best estimate on the timing of activities and is subject to change.

  • January – March 2009*

Hours of construction

  • Monday through Friday: 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (as late as 10:00 p.m. on some occasions)
  • Some weekends: 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
  • Sewage bypass pumps will run 24 hours a day for the project duration

What to expect

  • Traffic revisions
    • Westbound curb lane of Bellevue-Redmond Road to be closed between Northeast 20th Place and 134th Avenue Northeast
    • Sidewalk closed: north side of Bellevue-Redmond Road from 134th Avenue Northeast to 143rd Avenue Northeast (bus stop just west of 140th Avenue Northeast to remain accessible)
  • Traffic delays
    • In addition to the above, there will be a few days of trenching across Bellevue-Redmond Road, and trenching at the intersection of 140th Avenue Northeast/ Bellevue-Redmond Road will cause significant delays
    • Trenching at 140th Avenue Northeast/Bellevue-Redmond Road will be done on weekends to minimize delays, but drivers will be asked to avoid the area on those weekends.
  • Construction equipment
    • Temporary sewage by-pass pumps and pipes
    • Trucks
    • Backhoe
  • Noise
    • Construction equipment and activities
    • Sewage bypass pumping operations 24 hours a day throughout project duration
  • Bus Rte. #233 revisions
    • Westbound bus stop at Highland Community Center will be relocated to approximately 100 feet east of Northeast 20th Place for the project duration.
