King County permits for treating and conveying water resources
King County conveys treated water to Puget Sound and to beneficial uses from its regional wastewater conveyance and treatment system under permits issued by the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology).
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits (external link) -- Ecology administers these permits under authority delegated to the department by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Brightwater Treatment Plant permit covers the operation of the Brightwater Treatment Plant near Woodinville and the portion of the conveyance system owned by King County.
The South Treatment Plant permit covers the operation of the South Treatment Plant in Renton and the portion of the conveyance system owned by King County.
The West Point Treatment Plant permit covers the operation of the West Point Treatment Plant in Seattle, the combined sewer overflow (CSO) system, the CSO treatment facilities including Alki, Carkeek, Elliott West, Henderson/Martin Luther King, and the portion of the conveyance system owned by King County.
The Carnation Treatment Plant permit covers the operation of the Carnation Treatment Plant and the portion of the conveyance system owned by King County.
