State Enviromental Policy Act (SEPA) Mitigated Determination of Non-Significance River Facilities Vegetation Management Program
Notification is hereby given that The King County Water and Land Resources (WLRD) Division, River and Floodplain Management Program, proposes vegetation management activities on King County maintained levees and revetments. These activities include:
1) Removal of vegetation in the Sammamish River Transition Zone as required by the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
2) Harvesting of cuttings from native plants (primarily willow and red twig dogwood) for flood protection repair and retrofit projects.
3) Removal of state and county listed noxious weeds, weeds of concern and other invasive vegetation from King County levees and revetments and associated properties.
4) Removal of trees deemed to be a hazard to people, property or infrastructure (specifically flood protection facilities).
5) Thinning of native vegetation to allow the inspection of flood protection facilities. Total thinning per this checklist is limited to the amount of cuttings needed for flood protection facility repair and retrofit projects.
The vegetation management activities covered by this MDNS are limited to King County flood protection facilities located on King County’s major rivers and large streams. These waterbodies include the six major rivers in King County--the South Fork Skykomish, Snoqualmie, Sammamish, Cedar, Green, and White Rivers and their large tributaries; and Issaquah Creek.
