Public process timeline
King County Shoreline Master Program UpdateIn July 2005, King County received a grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology to update the County's 30-year old Shoreline Master Program. The Ecology grant provided King County with much needed resources to conduct the update and to involve the public throughout the process. The following timeline sets forth the major milestones in the public process.
| January 2007 |
Expand Shoreline Master Program web site to include a draft updated map of the shoreline jurisdiction, present preliminary information on King County shoreline conditions, and encourage public comments. Begin working with stakeholder and community groups to gather input on what the community goals are for the future of King County shorelines. Hold general public meetings accompanied by an 8-week comment period. Launch online public comment form to provide for open discussion and consideration of, and response to, public comments throughout the update process. |

Release first Draft Shoreline Master Program, including shoreline designations and map, policies and regulations, and public access and restoration plans for public review and comment. |

Public meetings on first Draft Shoreline Master Program. |
September 2007 |
Release second Draft Shoreline Master Program (coordinated with 2008 King County Comprehensive Plan update) for public review and comment. |
October 2007 |
Public meetings on second Draft Shoreline Master Program. |

Release third Draft Shoreline Master Program for public review and comment. |
