In July 2005, King County received a grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology to update the County's 30-year old Shoreline Master Program. Responsibility for developing King County's proposed update is shared by the County's Department of Development and Environmental Services (DDES) and Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP).
King County's Shoreline Master Program Update includes marine shorelines, rivers with a flow greater than 20 cubic feet per second, lakes larger than 20 acres, upland areas within 200 feet of these water bodies and the floodplains and wetlands associated with these shorelines. Look at the areas covered on the King County Shoreline Jurisdiction map (Acrobat PDF format) or look up shoreline areas by parcel with our shoreline mapping lookup page.
King County Executive Triplett transmitted his recommended Shoreline Master Program Update to the King County Council on November 5, 2009. This is the first substantive update to King County's Shoreline Master Program since the program was originally adopted in 1978.
