Rural Forest Commission
King County, Washington
The King County Rural Forest Commission is an advisory group of 13 volunteer members representing a variety of rural forest interests. The Commission advises the County on policies and programs affecting rural forestry; works to identify strategies to conserve forestlands; and promotes the practice of forestry in rural areas of the county. The Commission meets on the third Wednesday in the months of January, March, May, July, September and November. The public is welcome to attend.
The Commission currently seeks volunteers to fill three vacant positions. Applicants should have a working knowledge of forestry in King County, reside in King County and be able to work with differing viewpoints to find solutions to complex problems. Priority will be given to applicants who meet one of the following criteria:
- Professional or academic forester;
- Representative of a forestry professional association;
- Commercial or industrial consumer of forest products;
- An owner of forested acreage, or
- A community member who represents a rural city.
Other groups represented on the Rural Forest Commission include the environmental community, affected Indian Tribes, industrial forestland owners, small forestland owners and professional foresters.
