Public meeting
Green River flood safety information

You are invited to attend a public meeting for information about flood safety and developments related to the Howard Hanson Dam operations on the Green River.

In February 2009, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that storage capacity at the Howard Hanson Dam would be temporarily restricted until engineers can evaluate damage that was discovered following the January 2009 flooding. While there is no immediate danger to people and property below the dam, an increased risk of flooding to the Green River Valley below the dam is possible in the event of a major rainstorm or significant snowmelt. Visit the Green River Basin flood plan page to learn more.

You are encouraged to attend this meeting to learn more about

  • Dam operations and potential impacts to you and your property;
  • What is being done in King County to respond to any possible impacts; and
  • Resources available to you and ways you can help protect yourself and your property against flood risks.
