Septage acceptance guidelines

In order to dispose at the South Plant facility, a disposal permit needs to be obtained from the DNRP Septage Disposal Program. The criteria for obtaining a disposal permit includes:

  • Obtain a Valid Pumper Certification from the Seattle/King County Department of Public Health.
    • Application information can be obtained from Doug Jones at 206-296-9744, Community Environmental Health Officer at 14350 Southeast Eastgate Way, Bellevue, WA, 98007-6458; or e-mail doug.jones@kingcounty.gov
    • *Note- Vactor type trucks, used for sewer cleaning, are NOT required to obtain Pumper Certification from the Seattle/King County Department of Public Health.
  • Submit to the Septage Disposal Program Coordinator: 
    • proof of King County required liability coverage with the following minimum requirements:
      • Automobile liability of $1,000,000 per occurance.
      • Each policy shall include King County, its officers, officials, employees and agents as additional insured.
    • A signed copy of the disposal site permit.

It is essential that haulers understand the differences between:

King County may revoke this permit for:

  • Non payment of disposal or renewal fees
  • Disposal of hazardous waste
  • Disposal of commercial waste that is not domestic in nature without prior approval from KCIW
  • Inappropriate use of the disposal facility
  • Not cleaning up spills at the disposal site
