Technology Evaluation
When the Wastewater Treatment Division identifies a promising technology or is contacted by a vendor with a promising technology, the Technology Assessment Program initiates a Preliminary Technology Evaluation process. This evaluation allows us to assess the applicability of the technology to our wastewater system and whether the technology has the potential to save money, improve treatment performance or recovery valuable resources. Specifically, the preliminary technology evaluation process considers the following elements:
- Level of technology development
- Applicability to wastewater system/King County facilities
- Potential benefits to wastewater/King County facilities or the environment
- Potential impacts to wastewater/King County facilities or the environment
- Potential for recovery of valuable resources
- Consistency with King County policies and directives
After the preliminary review, further partnerships regarding new technologies are initiated as capital project budgets allow, as specific technologies become scalable and can prove on paper that they may become a potential cost-effective option for biosolids management, renewable energy or other WTD needs.
