Saturday, April 18, 2009 - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

More than one thousand volunteers worked  at 12 restoration work sites along the Duwamish River on Saturday, April 18, 2009. Work parties began at 10 a.m. as the annual Duwamish Alive! Earth Day community celebration kicked off to help restore habitat for fish and wildlife. Volunteers pulled weeds, mulched planting areas, planted native vegetation, and picked up debris and trash in the restoration areas. Immediately following the restoration event, a festival of green alternatives, art and community activities was held at Cooper Elementary School, with performing artists, kids crafts, nature hikes, raffle, and environmental education tables.
