Natural Resource Stewardship NetworkThe Natural Resource Stewardship Network provides grants and technical assistance to projects that involve communities and youth in improving neighborhood green spaces and forests. Funds for grants are provided by the King County Forestry Program and the King Conservation District. For complete information on how to apply for assistance, see our Guidelines and application. OverviewProjects must be community-based efforts to improve community trees, forests, greenbelts or wooded areas. Projects must be located in County, and accomplish all of the following objectives: - Enhance community trees or forested habitats by planning, planting, managing, maintaining and/or monitoring trees and associated understory;
- Involve youth in activities that will help them develop skills and abilities in the conservation or management of trees and/or forested areas;
- Improve public understanding of the benefits and importance of forests;
- Take place outside of school hours; and
- If the project involves habitat restoration or tree planting, the project must ensure long-term maintenance of project sites.
Examples: Involve youth in reforesting upland habitat, help young people build job skills in forestry, provide summer arboriculture internships for high school students; improve woodlands on schools grounds or train youth in sustainable forestry concepts and methods. Bring green to the Skyway and White Center communitiesUp to $10,000 in grant funds will be available for projects that focus on urban forest enhancements, especially tree planting, in the Skyway and White Center unincorporated areas. Eligibility Priority will be given to projects in urban areas and projects that do not duplicate existing efforts. Non-profit organizations, schools, cities, tribes, and special districts are eligible for assistance. If your community organization does not have tax exempt status, you must designate a qualifying sponsor. King County departments, individuals and businesses are not eligible. Project assistanceThe Network's Technical Assistance Group offers a broad array of technical tools and information to help communities carry out projects. Project assistance is awarded on a case by case basis. Network members bring their resources to your project individually, and depending on availability. For complete information, read our guidelines and application. GrantsApply any time for assistance from our Technical Assistance Group or grants under $2,500. For project assistance and grants up to $20,000 submit an application by the due date.
