Oct. 10, 2011 King County public meeting for Lake Allen flooding remedy update set for Oct. 29
King County has scheduled an Oct. 29 public meeting to update Lake Allen community residents on the Sammamish Plateau about plans to reduce persistent flooding in the area.
The meeting will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church 1757 244th Ave. N.E., Sammamish.
Flooding in the area of the Lake Allen outlet often closes Northeast 8th Street, where the Allen outlet crosses under the road, restricting access to several homes. The recurring flooding also covers private property in the area.
King County met with community members in February to discuss the history of the problem, and to gather ideas for solving the drainage problem. The County has also been collecting data from the Lake Allen watershed to help guide its work.
King County has already taken several steps to help improve the flow of water through the area, including cleaning out a drainage pipe system, replacing a damaged trash rack on the drainage system and installing a beaver fence at the entrance to the drainage system to discourage dam building.
