In 2011, King County will invest $5.8 million to partner with the Skyway Water and Sewer District on a project to control infiltration and inflow, or I/I, which is the stormwater and groundwater that gets into the regional sewer system through cracked, leaky sewer lines. I/I takes up capacity in sewer pipes and costs money to collect and treat.

Project staff will present information and answer questions about the project, and share information about the construction schedule, the expected impacts to neighbors, and to explain how King County will work with community members while work is under way.

Additional information is available on the project website at http://www.kingcounty.gov/environment/wastewater/II.aspx or by contacting Maryann Petrocelli at 206-263-7321 or maryann.petrocelli@kingcounty.gov.

People enjoy clean water and a healthy environment because of King County's wastewater treatment program. The county’s Wastewater Treatment Division protects public health and water quality by serving 17 cities, 17 local sewer districts and more than 1.5 million residents in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties. Formerly called Metro, the regional clean-water agency now operated by King County has been preventing water pollution for more than 40 years.
