March 28, 2011 Help keep King County clean and green: Come to Soos Creek Park clean-up event, April 216th semi-annual clean-up and restoration day includes invasive plant removal
Join the Sierra Club South King County group and Friends of Soos Creek Park, in coordination with King County Parks, for the 16th semiannual restoration event at Soos Creek Park on Saturday, April 2.
Stretching from Renton, through Kent and Covington and following its namesake creek for several miles, Soos Creek Park offers high-quality habitat for fish and wildlife in what is an otherwise urban setting.
Volunteers with Sierra Club South King County and Friends of Soos Creek Park will be removing invasive scotch broom, blackberries, ivy, holly and laurel, all of which are invasive species that degrade wildlife habitat.
Drinks and snacks will be provided, and volunteers are welcome to bring their own lunch if you’d like. You’ll need work clothes, gloves, and boots and be sure to dress for the weather. Most tools will be provided, although hand pruners may be helpful. Activity will be between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., and volunteers can work for as long as they like during that timeframe.
The crew will meet at 9 a.m. in the parking lot at the southern terminus the trail, which is along 148th Avenue Southeast, just off Southeast 266th Street near Lake Meridian Park. More information is available by contacting Mark Johnston at 253-639-3862 or markjtn@earthlink.net.
