King County offers free ‘naturescaping’ seminar, native plant salvage near Fall City

March 23 seminar-goers can dig free, native plants at March 26 plant salvage

Whether you own a quarter acre or 20 acres, King County can help you create a low-maintenance landscape that is healthier for people and wildlife at a free Naturescaping workshop, March 23, in Fall City.

The workshop will be taught by Greg Rabourn, a regular panelist on KUOW Radio’s “Greendays’ Gardening” show, and Sasha Shaw, a weed control expert from the King County Noxious Weed Control Program.

Rabourn will show workshop participants how to improve their property’s soil, shrink their lawn, improve habitat and reduce the amount of time, energy and money spent on yard work. Shaw will bring participants up to date on the latest weed-control tips.

The following weekend, on March 26, workshop-goers will be eligible to participate in a native plant salvage on land that is scheduled for development. Plant salvage participants can take home native plants for their own yards.

The March 23 workshop is scheduled for 6:30-8:45 p.m. at Chief Kanim Middle School library, 32627 SE Fall City-Redmond Rd, in Fall City. The native plant salvage is set for Saturday, March 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The salvage site location and driving directions will be provided at the naturescaping workshop.

The workshop is sponsored by Stewardship in Action, a project with Partnership for Rural King County. This organization of horse owners, neighbors, farmers and forest owners working with non-profit and government agencies to help rural landowners care for their land in the Raging River and Patterson Creek watersheds.
