King County closes Flood Warning Center as last of the rain-swollen river flows subside

King County closed its Flood Warning Center on Wednesday morning, Jan. 26, after 10 days of round-the-clock operations in response to high river flows.

The Flood Warning Center was opened shortly after midnight on Jan. 16 so staff could closely monitor flooding conditions along several rivers that quickly rose to flood levels as a result of heavy rain across the region.

While the heavy rain ended late last week, the Flood Warning Center remained open so that staff could keep an eye on flows along the Cedar and Green rivers that were running high as a result of controlled releases from dams.

Staff will continue to monitor stream gages and weather reports and provide updated information on river conditions as necessary. Real-time river level information is available online at www.kingcounty.gov/flood.

Updated information on flooding will also be posted on the King County website at www.kingcounty.gov, and via RPIN, the area's regional public information website, at http://www.rpin.org. A recorded flood-information hotline is also updated each hour for citizens wanting information in flood areas. The number is 206-296-8200 or 1-800-945-9263.

Anyone who needs help interpreting flood information during a Flood Warning Center opening can call 206-296-4535 or 1-800-768-7932. Problems on county maintained roads can be reported by calling 206-296-8100 or 1-800-KC-ROADS.
