Public input encouraged as King County updates stormwater management plan

Online survey, videos part of involvement process; Comments due by March 11

Managing the quantity and quality of stormwater runoff is a cornerstone of King County’s ongoing commitment to protect public health and improve environmental conditions in streams, rivers, lakes and Puget Sound.

King County is reviewing and updating its Stormwater Management Program, and the public has an opportunity to comment on the program’s development and implementation.

With short videos, an interactive online survey and many supporting documents, public participation in the Stormwater Management Program update is as easy as visiting www.kingcounty.gov/stormwater.

Public comment on the draft 2011 SWMP document will be accepted through March 11. Comments received after March 11 will be included in the review and planning processes for the 2012 program update.

The county’s draft update to its stormwater management program meets the requirements of the Washington Department of Ecology’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System stormwater permit.
Following public review, the updated stormwater management document will be submitted to the Washington State Department of Ecology on March 31.

Citizens are invited to share their thoughts after reviewing the online documents and materials by sending comments via e-mail to stormwater@kingcounty.gov, or through the U.S. mail to the Stormwater Management Team, King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, 201 S. Jackson St., Suite 600, Seattle, WA 98104.
