Brief phone survey of King County floodplain residents aimed at improving safety

King County will conduct a brief telephone survey of its floodplain residents this month to find out how aware and prepared they are for flood risks. The County will use the information to help them direct outreach efforts and improve safety in floodplain communities.

Hundreds of residents in the Green, Snoqualmie, Cedar and White river floodplains will be contacted by phone for the survey, which is expected to begin during the second week of November.

The survey will take about eight minutes to complete and will focus on floodplain residents’ preparedness for a flood event, including knowing how to find up-to-date flood information, developing an emergency evacuation plan, purchasing residential flood insurance and more.

King County leaders recently marked the 50th anniversary of the County’s Flood Warning Program, and strongly encouraged residents and others in flood-prone areas to prepare for a potentially active flood season this fall and winter.
