King County hosts community meeting Nov. 16 to discuss landfill gas facility

The King County Solid Waste Division will host a community meeting Nov. 16 in Issaquah to discuss operation of the landfill gas-to-energy facility located at the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill.

The meeting is set for 7-9 p.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 220 Mountain Park Blvd. SW, Issaquah. Saint Joseph’s is less than a quarter mile west of the Newport Way Northwest-West Sunset Way intersection.

The Cedar Hills Regional Landfill is home to one of the largest landfill gas processing facilities in the nation. The facility takes gas from decomposing garbage buried at the landfill, cleans it and transfers it to a nearby natural gas pipeline.

Representatives from Bio Energy Washington, the company that owns and operates the landfill gas-to-energy facility, and the Solid Waste Division will present information about the facility and be available to answer questions.

By capturing and cleaning the landfill gas, King County is creating a resource from waste, and dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

More information is available by contacting the King County Solid Waste Division at 206-296-4490, TTY Relay: 711, or online at www.kingcounty.gov/solidwaste. Please contact the Solid Waste Division by Nov. 9 to request accommodations for the meeting. Alternate formats provided upon request.
