May 4, 2010 ‘Homegrown Celebration’ to feature 4-H, Enumclaw-area produce, arts and craftsKing County provides $50,000 to support Enumclaw event in August
King County today wired $50,000 to the City of Enumclaw to support a new “homegrown” summer event that will showcase 4-H competitions, the Enumclaw Plateau’s agricultural bounty and local arts and crafts.
The City of Enumclaw and the King County Fair are teaming up to present the “2010 Homegrown Celebration,” Aug. 12-14, at the Enumclaw Exposition Center.
“I am pleased to continue support for the agriculture and educational events that are so important for our youth and that have been the heart of the King County Fair for 146 years,” said King County Executive Dow Constantine. “Programs like 4-H and Future Farmers of America help us carry on the legacy of farming in our region.”
“We are thrilled about hosting an event that focuses on 4-H and FFA, the amazing agricultural products, arts, crafts, and music produced locally by residents of the Enumclaw Plateau,” said Enumclaw mayor Liz Reynolds. “It will be both a great community event and an opportunity to show the region all the wonderful things the Plateau has to offer.”
Reynolds said the event is not only good news for families involved in 4-H, but the late summer dates are also prime harvest time for many of the Plateau’s fabled produce. Local farmers will be able to sell their produce at the event.
King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn was instrumental in securing the money for 2010, as well as another $109,000 to help support King County 4-H programs.
“The thought of 4-H missing from the fabric of my district and all King County communities is unimaginable,” said Dunn. “I’m glad we were able to find the funding to keep the program going and to help sponsor this great event in Enumclaw.”
Mayor Reynolds said she is confident Plateau residents will embrace and invest themselves in the Homegrown Celebration.
