Celebrate ‘World Water Day’ with tours of the West Point Treatment Plant, March 27

Bring a roll of new, wrapped toilet paper to support Urban Rest Stop

People are invited to celebrate World Water Day and support access to safe, dignified sanitation services at an upcoming open house hosted by King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division. This family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, March 27 at King County’s West Point Treatment Plant, 1400 Utah St. W., Seattle, from 10 a.m. to Noon.

The free event will feature treatment plant tours and information to enable people to learn about our local clean-water infrastructure and its role in protecting public health and the environment, and why access to proper sanitation is an important issue in every community.

Participants are encouraged to bring a donation of new, wrapped toilet paper to support the Urban Rest Stop, a Seattle non-profit that provides a clean, safe and welcoming facility where individuals and families can use restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. Each week, the Urban Rest Stop uses about 93 rolls of toilet paper.

The West Point Treatment Plant is an industrial facility, so sturdy closed-toed shoes are required. Tours last about two hours, and children accompanied by an adult are welcome.

Reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities can be arranged by calling Jo Sullivan at 206-296-8361 or 711 TTY.

The United Nations General Assembly established World Water Day in 1993. Learn more about World Water Day on the Web at http://www.worldwaterday.org.
