Dec. 12, 2010 Crews respond quickly to storm-related overflow at Medina Pump StationWork under way to restore normal operation
Employees with King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division responded quickly to a sewer overflow that began around 1 a.m. Sunday at the Medina Pump Station.
Large volumes of rain from a “Pineapple Express” storm blowing through the region, combined with a computer system malfunction at the pump station, are believed to have contributed to the conditions that caused the overflow.
Crews have engaged a back-up system to enable the pumps to operate manually and will continue working to restore normal operation at the facility. The volume of the overflow is unknown at this time.
King County will notify health and regulatory agencies about the overflow, take water quality samples, and post affected public areas as closed.
