April 14, 2010 King County Wastemobile in Bothell April 23-25 for household hazardous wasteKing County program in 21st year of service; year-round Auburn location continues
King County residents can safely dispose of old car batteries, oil, paint thinner and many other household hazardous items at no cost when the King County Wastemobile comes to Bothell, April 23-25.
The Wastemobile will set up shop in the Seattle Times building parking lot, at 19200 120th Ave NE, Bothell.
King County residents can drop off hazardous household waste items including pesticides, oil-based paints, automotive products (oil, antifreeze, auto batteries, etc.), fluorescent bulbs/tubes and other items free of charge.
“Wastemobile visitors have been pleased with the ease and convenience of the service,” said Jay Watson, program administrator.
Created in 1989, the Wastemobile was the first program of its kind in the nation. It is operated by King County Solid Waste Division as part of the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program, and travels throughout the county from the spring through fall.
By properly disposing of these materials and keeping them out of drains and landfills, King County residents are helping safeguard the environment.
After its Bothell visit, the Wastemobile will collect household hazardous waste on Vashon Island, April 30 - May 2. The Wastemobile will be set up in the Tjomsland Gravel Pit, 17001 107th Ave SW.
King County residents have a convenient alternative to the traveling Wastemobile events: A permanent household hazardous waste collection site is located in the northwest corner of the Auburn SuperMall, 1101 SuperMall Way (near the loading docks and Sports Authority), and operates from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday through Sunday.
The service is offered on the first and third full weekends of the month. The 2010 schedule is posted on-line at http://www.lhwmp.org/home/HHW/disposal-locations.aspx#auburn and is also available by calling the Household Hazards Line (206-296-4692 or 1-888-TOXIC ED (869-4233); TTY relay: 711.
Looking for reusable household products? The Wastemobile will provide free products to the public such as oil-based paint, stain and primer, plus wood care and cleaning products. These products are subject to availability, and residents will need sign a release form prior to receiving materials.
Residents contribute to the cost of this service through their regular trash and sewer utility fees, so there is no fee charged at the Wastemobile.
