Celebrate Earth Day with tour of South Treatment Plant in Renton, April 24

Donate unwanted plant pots to support the biosolids demonstration garden

Learn where water goes when you brush and flush, see how King County creates valuable resources from the wastewater it treats each day, and recycle your old plant pots to support a biosolids demonstration garden.

People are invited to celebrate Earth Day with a clean-water facility tour to find out how our waste is treated, recycled, and safely returned to the environment. This free, family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, April 24 at King County’s South Treatment Plant, 1200 Monster Road SW in Renton from 10 a.m. to Noon.

The plant is an industrial facility, so sturdy closed-toed shoes are required. Tours last about two hours, and children accompanied by an adult are welcome.

To sign up for a tour, please RSVP at 206-263-6028, 711 TTY Relay, or visit the Web at www.kingcounty.gov/environment/wtd/education. Reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities can be arranged by calling in advance.

Participants are welcome to make a donation of unwanted garden pots. As the plant’s award-winning biosolids demonstration garden emerges from its winter hibernation, there is a need for starting trays and pots of all sizes to continue cultivating plants and seedlings started by several school groups over the past several months. Donations of four to six inch pots are especially needed.
