King County logo Flood Control District LogoA draft of the King County Flood Control District’s comprehensive hazard mitigation plan is now available for public comment. The plan, available for public comment at www.kingcounty.gov/environment/wlr, identifies potential risks from multiple hazards and offers solutions for reducing those risks to help ensure the safety of those who live in or near floodplains.

Public comment on the draft plan will be accepted through April 16. All comments received by this deadline will be considered when preparing the final hazard mitigation plan, which is expected to be adopted by the Flood Control District by early this summer, following pre-approval by Washington Military Department Emergency Management Division and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The hazard mitigation plan is being developed to assure the Flood Control District is consistent with the federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, and would allow the district to take full advantage of federal disaster assistance opportunities.
