Nov. 6, 2009 National water conference, Nov. 9-12 in Seattle, features Puget Sound restoration work
The American Water Resource Association is bringing its knowledge and expertise to Seattle with its National Water Resources Conference, Nov. 9-12. This region’s ongoing work to restore Puget Sound and its response to the heightened flood threat in the Green River Valley are among the featured discussions.
The conference, Nov. 9-12 at the Red Lion Hotel in Seattle, features more than 400 presentations from around the country on estuary and river management, stormwater control, urbanization, toxics, climate change, water quality, groundwater, water supply, sustainability, science, engineering and more.
Water supply and climate change are among the other water-related issues that are affecting this region, and they will be discussed by some of the world’s top experts.
Three regionally renowned officials are scheduled to kick off the conference Nov. 9 to address some of the most relevant issues affecting the clean up of Puget Sound:
- David Dicks, Executive Director, Puget Sound Partnership;
- Daniel Opalski, Deputy Administrator, Environmental Protection Agency Region 10; and
- Ken Slattery, Water Resources Program Director, Washington Department of Ecology.
Also, U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Colonel Anthony Wright is scheduled to speak Nov. 11 on Reducing the Risk of Flooding below Howard Hanson Dam.
