Witness the magic of wastewater treatment

Community invited to tour county’s clean-water facilities

Learn where water goes after you brush and flush, and meet the municipal magicians who create resources from the 200 million gallons of wastewater King County treats each day.

The Wastewater Treatment Division is opening the doors of its regional clean-water facilities to the public this spring, offering free tours, family fun and environmental education to interested community members.

• Saturday, June 6 - South Treatment Plant, 1200 Monster Road S.W., Renton, 10 a.m. to Noon. A tour of Waterworks Gardens Park will also be available at 11 a.m.  No registration is necessary.
• Thursday, June 18 - West Point Treatment Plant, 1400 Utah St. W., Seattle, 4-6 p.m.  Pre-registration is required online at http://green.kingcounty.gov/wastewater-education/apptrequest.aspx or by calling 206-263-6028.

The plants are industrial facilities, so sensible closed-toed shoes are required. Tours last about two hours, and children accompanied by an adult are welcome.
